The Union of Arab Banks (UAB) is a non-profit organizati= on operating under the umbrella of the League of Arab States and comprises more than 320 Arab financial and banking institutions making it the largest consortium in the Arab region aiming to consolidate and foster cooperation between its members and the international banking and financial communities; hence providing a bridge for networking opportunities between our regional institutions and the international marketplace.

Bankers are growingly forced to live up to the challenges and difficulties channeled by the increased forces of globalization, deregulation and liberalization of financial services; illicit acts powered mainly by money laundering and terrorism financing activities; expanded base and complexity of banking risks including new risks such as operational, le= gal and reputational risk; the pressures of going o= nline in banking and financial business at times e-banking is still under-probati= on; the need for state-of-the-art modern risk management strategies, policies a= nd practices to overcome the growing base of banking and financial risks; and global changes in banking standards governing accounting, anti-money launde= ring and combating financing terrorism, corporate governance and supervision, wi= th Basel II constituting the biggest headache of all times.<= /p>

For bankers to rise to the challenges of today and tomor= row, major players in the international banking industry, whether regulators, supervisors and bankers, need to come closer together and discuss viable and effective strategies, policies and means to ensure and foster safety and stability to the overall industry. For this, Our Beirut Conference has developed to become a leading Arab platform which gathers leaders of the pu= blic and private sectors, from the banking, investment and economic sectors, bes= ides representatives of key international organizations, to meet and discuss the latest issues on the investment and banking fronts which are of extreme sig= nificance to our Arab region.
